Little League -- Petrea's homer keeps Selah alive

YAKIMA -- On the verge of elimination, Selah stayed alive in the District 12 Little League Age 11 Tournament when Garrhett Petrea smacked a walkoff three-run homer Thursday at East Valley.

Petrea's shot gave Selah a 9-7 victory over Richland National in the loser-out game.

Greater Richland reached the title game with a 5-4, 8-inning victory over Pasco, which faces Selah in a loser-out game today.

In the 9-10 tournament, Wyatt Martz hit a two-run home run to back the pitching of Justin VanDeBrake and Eli Valdez as West Valley beat Richland National 7-5 in an elimination game.

In the winner's bracket, Greater Richland moved into the title game with a 19-2 win over Selah. Selah and West Valley play today in a loser-out contest.

 

9-10 TOURNAMENT

WEST VALLEY 7 RICHLAND NATIONAL 5: VanDeBrake and Valdez combined to allow six hits total while striking out eight. VanDeBrake was also 2-for-3 with a double.

GREATER RICHLAND 19 SELAH 2: McKaden Manderbach struck out six in a complete-game effort, and also went 3-for-4 with three doubles. Griffey March was 3-for-3 with an RBI for the winners. Vance Wood had two hits and scored twice for Selah.

* Wednesday, Richland National eliminated West Valley Red 13-5, and West Valley Blue eliminated Upper Valley 8-0.

 

11 TOURNAMENT

SELAH 9, RICHLAND NATIONAL 7: Petrea finished 2-for-3 with four RBI, and Dain Kuhn was 1-for-2 with an RBI for Selah.

* Wednesday, Selah eliminated East Valley 11-1, and Richland National eliminated West Valley 9-8.
