EVERETT -- Collin Cowgill was at it again Thursday night.

The Bears center-fielder followed his three-homer outburst of the previous evening with another round-tripper, his 11th of the season, as Yakima beat Everett 5-4 before an announced crowd of 2,901 at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Cowgill's latest blast, a leadoff shot in the eighth inning, snapped a 4-4 tie and helped the Bears improve to 8-9. The University of Kentucky product, a fifth-round pick in last month's draft, has homered in three consecutive games and has hit seven over the past six.

Yakima's short-season record is 17, set by Lamont Matthews in 1999.

Houston Summers, the converted catcher, improved to 3-0 as a knuckleball specialist, working eight innings and allowing four earned runs. He struck out five and walked five.

Jason Durst pitched a perfect ninth for his first save.

Cowgill, who grounded into a double play in his first plate appearance, struck out swinging in his second and put down a sacrifice bunt in his third, improved his batting average to .281.

Anthony Smith also homered, his second of the season, to lead off the fifth. Brendan Duffy was later hit by a pitch and then scored on Gerardo Bustamante's two-out double for a 2-1 Yakima lead.

The AquaSox (6-11) regained the advantage with three runs in the sixth. After a leadoff walk, infield single and sacrifice bunt put runners at second and third with one out.

One run scored on a passed ball. After a strikeout and walk, two more runs scored on Kevin Reynolds' triple to right for a 4-2 Everett lead.

But the Bears tied it in the seventh on Duffy's RBI triple and Bustamante's run-scoring groundout, setting the stage for Cowgill. He was the first hitter to face Doug Salinas, who relieved starter Walter Suriel.

The five-game series continues tonight and concludes Monday.
