YAKIMA -- The Yakima Valley Pepsi Pak had a dramatic debut, while the Yakima Pepsi Beetles never got started as the Beetles' annual Firecracker Tournament opened Wednesday.

Overcoming an early deficit, the Pak scored in each of its last three at-bats, capped by Josh Heaton's run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh, as Yakima Valley topped the Del Norte Grizzlies from California 4-3 at Parker Field.

Yakima, meanwhile, was scheduled to face Kelowna in the nightcap at Parker Field, but the Canadian team did not show up. A Beetles alumni team will play the remainder of Kelowna's tournament games.

The Beetles will get to work today with a pair of games at Parker Field -- against Anderson Hay at 4 p.m. and then against Bellevue Honda at 7.

The Pak move over to Davis Field today, playing the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles at 7 p.m.

In other action Wednesday at Parker Field, the Fraser Valley Chiefs defeated Graham-Kapowsin 14-3, and the Arlington River Dogs topped Del Norte 4-3. At Davis Field, Anderson Hay beat Bellevue Honda 7-6, and Bellevue Honda stopped Tacoma RBI 14-2.

YAKIMA VALLEY 4, DEL NORTE 3: At Parker Field, the Pak's comeback backed a solid outing by Jake Fife, who scattered seven hits and struck out eight in going the distance. Fife also tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

Eaton, who finished 2-for-3, won the game with a single in the seventh.

John Plugoff had an RBI double for Yakima Valley.
